Black Adam Review (Featuring She-Hulk and Werewolf by Night
In this episode, Captain Kaye and Teresa discuss She-Hulk, Werewolf by Night, and Black Adam!
What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, and the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe has changed! Consider this our “official” review for Black Adam, while Teresa and I also give our two cents on the entire series of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Marvel’s first Special Presentation Werewolf by Night.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
If you want my full thoughts on each individual episode of the series, you can check out our YouTube series Marvel After the Credits here. On the whole, this has become one of my favorite of the MCU shows on Disney+. Tatiana Maslany is excellent as the titular fourth wall breaking protagonist, it has a playful sense of humor that isn’t afraid to take jabs at its audience, and as a bonus, it helped reintroduce a fan favorite character from the Marvel Netflix Universe. Some episodes I liked more than others, and the visual effects weren’t always perfect, but it’s one of the few series so far in Phase 4 that takes full advantage of the medium of television.
Werewolf by Night
There are a couple significant “first’s” to be acknowledged. Not only is this Marvel’s first Special Presentation, but it’s also film composer Michael Giacchino’s directorial debut. For that reason alone, this project has my upmost respect, but I also just happen to think it’s one of the best things that Marvel has done in quite some time. If you’re looking for a near perfect love letter to classic monster movies like The Wolf Man or Creature From the Black Lagoon, then you should definitely check this out if you haven’t already!
Black Adam
You’ll have to listen to the podcast to hear my full thoughts, but what I can say here is this: Black Adam might be the most rewatchable film in the franchise formerly known as a the DC Extended Universe. It’s not my favorite film by any means, and there are plenty of things to criticize. However, I thought the performances for the most part were great, the action was awesome, and the score was incredible. It’s still surreal to me that the Justice Society of America is featured in a wide theatrically released superhero film, that should tell you how far the genre has come.
