We Lost Our Human and Elephant - Renegade Animation #99
In this episode, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru discuss the Netflix animated feature The Magician's Elephant, and their interactive special We Lost Our Human!
What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, and no, we are not sponsored by Netflix. These next two episodes of Renegade Animation just so happen to be focused on various projects from the streaming service. This week, Cameron and I are covering their first major animated feature for the year, The Magician’s Elephant, and the brand new interactive special, We Lost Our Human! Tune into the episode to hear our full discussion.
The Magician’s Elephant
For a directorial feature debut, I thought Wendy Rogers made a solid first impression. She has over 30 years of experience in visual effects, and while that might not be the strongest element of the film, it at least succeeds in telling a compelling enough narrative with an inspiring message about finding the possible in the impossible.
“While its third act doesn't quite make the landing, and its visual presentation is underwhelming, the film still finds magic in finding the possible in impossible situations, and how we deal with the actions of our past.“ -The Animation Guru
We Lost Our Human
This might just be my favorite of all the interactive specials we’ve covered on this podcast. Director Curtis Lelash and writers Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt did an incredible job not only telling a wonderful story about the unbreakable bond between family, but creating a fully immersive experience that lets the players dictate each character’s respective arcs.
“Netflix once again provides an interactive experience that offers a vibrant, absurd, and surreal take on the friendship journey of a dog and cat trying to find their human.“ -The Animation Guru
