Ice Cream on Pizza, Mother's Milk and Screaming Goats - Renegade Capes #20
Tonight on Renegade Capes, Captain Kaye, Organoid Zero, Teresa, and Tommy look at Season 3 of Amazon's The Boys and Marvel's latest two titles, Ms Marvel and Thor: Love and Thunder!
Hey everyone, The Streamin’ Demon here yet again to introduce you to another Renegade Capes! In this installment, Mike, Brock, Teresa, and Tommy look at three VERY different superhero titles; Something dark and satirical, The Boys: Season 3, something sincere and spry, Ms Marvel, and something totally bonkers but…sad at the same time, Thor: Love and Thunder. Take it away, Mike!
The Boys: Season 3
“Wow, what a finale! I knew there was more to the reveal at the end of the previous episode, and that final conflict packed quite a punch. This show has already been full of surprises, so how the Hell are they gonna top themselves in S4?!”-Captain Kaye
Ms Marvel
“Overall the show has stayed relatively consistent, and 6 episodes turned out to be the perfect amount to tell this story. Only thing I didn't love was the designated antagonist, but that's it,”-Captain Kaye
Thor: Love and Thunder
“Thor: Love and Thunder is a direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok, and the 29th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Taika Waititi from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the film continues Thor's journey after his retirement is interrupted by Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods. Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who now inexplicably wields Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Ragnarok was absolutely the shot in the arm needed not just for the titular hero, but the actor Chris Hemsworth. You can tell he now feels more at home playing this role, as Waititi has allowed him more room for his natural charisma. Unlike Ragnarok, Waititi had more creative control, meaning he gets to tell a more emotional story this time. As implied by the film's subtitle, this is a love story, both about love lost and rekindling an old flame. At first I wasn't sure how Jane Foster would be reintroduced to this franchise, but once I learned about Gorr the God Butcher's weapon of choice, everything clicked into place. The cast in this film is terrific, I'm especially happy to see Natalie Portman return and fully commit to playing The Mighty Thor. Tessa Thompson of course slays as King Valkyrie, and Waititi's Korg gets a handful of laughs, but the major highlight of the film is Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. It's not often we get to see him playing a villain, but he excels at it in every way imaginable. He strikes that fine balance between silly and terrifying, sympathetic and monstrous. Gorr is easily the best villain in the Thor franchise, and one of the best in the MCU at large. The criticisms I have are minor at best. For the most part, I loved the visual presentation of this film. However, some of the VFX were not so great, but that's a symptom of a larger problem in the industry. Those who are fans of Taika Waititi's comedic sensibilities will love the film's sense of humor, while others may find it grating. For me, I thought some jokes landed better than others, but it was the dramatic moments that made up for those clunkers. One last thing I'll mention before future spoiler discussions is how much I adored the music! Yes, Michael Giacchino and Nami Melumad's score was incredible, but I also love all the Guns N Roses needle drops, which almost reminded me of how Queen's music was incorporated into Highlander. Overall, I had a blast with Thor: Love and Thunder! The action is great, the story was engaging, and it's just another awesome vehicle for Chris Hemsworth! I look forward to seeing this again, and stay tuned for further spoiler discussions!”-Captain Kaye
