Machine Head Retrospective (Part 5): Metal's Greatest Comeback Story! - RPC Jukebox #13
Last time on Renegade Jukebox, Machine Head had hit a critical and commercial low point with Supercharger, as Captain Kaye and Nick decimated it in their first negative episode. And now... the comeback of the century with Through the Ashes of Empires!
How’s it going, fellow Renegades? THE DIRECTOR is back to help set the stage for the next part in the on-going Machine Head retrospective… and man, we’ve got something special here.
If you recall, last time was um… kind of messy. Machine Head had just released Supercharger, and it was not good. Between the controversies and the other messes involved with the production and reception, it would have been enough to cripple any other act or entertainer for YEARS. Especially as there were now only three of the original members of the band left, AND they had broken away from their label Roadrunner after their last album. They needed to bite the bullet and change their trajectory, and it needed to happen fast, or their legacy would be left unfinished…
But something happened. They changed, and somehow came away with one of the all time best Rock albums of all time, with unprecedented success critically AND commercially, and it made them icons!
How does any band bounce back from such a devastating low to such a dizzying high? Well, you’ll have to listen to find out!
That’ll close the curtain for this episode! Special thanks to Jacob for editing this episode! Keep a zippo lighter raised up, as an encore of a podcast will be on stage very soon…
