Machine Head Retrospective (Part 6): A Metal Masterpiece - RPC Jukebox #14
Last time, on Renegade Jukebox, Captain Kaye and Nick covered Machine Head's big comeback album after a disappointing and reviled predecessor, which launched their careers to bigger and broader heights! And now... they talk The Blackening, AKA... a metal masterpiece!
How’s it going, fellow Renegades? TIS I! THE DIRECTOR. And we’re just rolling on forward in our Machine Head retrospective, and boy, do we have an interesting stop for this week’s show.
If you recall, last time, the boys from Machine Head definitely had their work cut out for them going forward, because they came back from one of the biggest bombs of their whole career with their last album: Through the Ashes of Empires. And they certainly rose through the ashes of Supercharger. They suddenly had good will back after leaning a bit too hard into arguably their more negative traits, and even scored a record deal in America!
So where do you go after reaching such dizzying highs after a terrifying low? Well… if you’ve read the title, and I know I have (EDITOR’S NOTE: I did write it, after all)… you make probably one of the best metal albums of all time.
But don’t take my word for it, listen to the Captain and Nick talk about it for yourselves!
That’ll do it for this episode! Special thanks to Jacob for editing this episode! Keep a zippo lighter raised, as you’ll see an encore of a podcast coming your way very… very soon!

And since they're talking about the biggest metal band of all time, they figured why not talk about their back catalog, the subject of this notorious documentary St. Anger, and what happened afterwards.
