Resident Evil Village arrives! Returnal review! Mass Effect hype! Fantasy developer team-ups! - Renegade Arcade #21
Brock, Tyler, and Keona welcome Zayne back to the fold as we hype up the release of Resident Evil Village, and our PS5 owners debate the pros and cons of Returnal’s gameplay! More Mass Effect Legendary Edition excitement as that game’s launch approaches, and we cover all the news from the past week! Oh, and we play a little development team match game (you’ll see what I mean in the episode)! Now, let’s prepare to meet our tall vampire goddess!
As usual, we have the video version at the beginning of the article and our audio-only podcast right above this paragraph, if you prefer that. It’s certainly been an interesting week in gaming. Discord broke off their deal with Microsoft only to accept a dalliance with Sony, while the latter dealt with a class action lawsuit brought against them because they’re no longer allowing third-party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy to sell digital download codes. We also saw a few new additions to the E3 2021 digital event roster, like Sega and Bandai Namco, among others. Bioware and EA gave away a bunch of downloadable Mass Effect goodies for free, and even allowed players to create their own custom ME Legendary Edition box art, which is neat.
Throughout the episode, we have Zayne and Brock give us the straight skinny on Housemarque’s Returnal, a game which has all the makings of a cult favorite, though there are some issues the developer could learn from in the future. I still think it looks good, and I wish I could play it, but they raise excellent points about the game’s quirks and some of its negative aspects. Still sounds cool to me, though.
Lastly, Resident Evil Village is finally out today for PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series S and X, and PC! We’ve been so hyped for this ever since it was announced and our tall vampire goddess was first glimpsed (and tweeted and meme’d) in an early teaser trailer! Personally, I’m playing through RE 7 just to get a sense of Ethan Winters’ backstory, but once I’m done, I cannot wait to meet Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters! And, of course, the other denizens of the creepy village. Should be a fun ride!
Welcome back to the stage of history and another episode of the Renegade Arcade! Keona, Tyler, and Brock are back to discuss the Last of Us HBO series casting news, along with some Call of Duty Zombies chatter, Epic Game Store’s upcoming exclusive PC release of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, more Resident Evil Village/Lady Dimitrescu analysis, and some fighting game news to top it all off! We’re a little late with this episode, so please forgive us! Now let’s get the party started!
