Rock the Dragon! Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Discussion - Renegade Animation #73
In this mini-episode, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru discuss the latest film in the long-running Dragon Ball franchise based on the manga created by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero!
What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, and I am excited to share this discussion myself and Cameron had over a franchise that has meant the world to me for over 20 years!
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
The film marks the return of the Red Ribbon Army, an evil organization that was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals who carry on its spirit have created the ultimate androids -- Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. However, these two androids call themselves superheroes and start attacking Piccolo and Gohan.
I can say with confidence that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the ultimate love letter to longtime fans of the franchise, including myself. Specifically as a fan of Gohan and Piccolo, I was beyond satisfied that they had the chance to step into the spotlight as the main protagonists, while Goku and Vegeta took a backseat. It may take some time to get used to the new animation style, but I commend Toei for trying something new. The voice cast is terrific, from veterans Chris Sabat and Kyle Herbert to newcomers like Aleks Le, Zeno Robinson and Charles Martinet. Obviously Cameron and I go further in depth on the podcast, but for now I’ll leave you with his closing thoughts:
“Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is, well, for a lack of a better word, super! It’s another action-packed heroic explosion of thrills and laughs that make for a very satisfying theatrical experience, and yet another fantastic film based on a TV show in 2022. If you can go see this film, even if you already have seen it, you should go see it again. When you see that a Japanese-animated film is playing in theaters, you should absolutely go watch it, because we need to make sure more of these films hit theaters.” -The Animation Guru
