The Annies and a Farewell to Moon Girl - Renegade Animation #172
In this episode, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru discuss the second (and final) season of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, while briefly sharing their thoughts on the winners of the 52nd Annie Awards!
What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, alongside my esteemed co-host, The Animation Guru! I’m not gonna lie, this is a rather bittersweet episode to share. On the one hand, I’m glad that we FINALLY found the opportunity to talk about Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Season 2. However, it’s a shame that the show has come to the end, when there’s so much more that could have been done with these characters. Now, without further ado, please tune into the podcast to hear the full discussion!
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Season 2
The thing that makes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur special, not just as a animated superhero show, but a television series in general, is how well it balances the episodic “villain of the week” formula with a strong overarching narrative for our titular protagonist and her supporting cast. Even though this takes place within a version of the Marvel universe, the characters still feel relatable, and the setting authentically represents the people of New York City. And just like the first season, the music by Rafael Saadiq remains one of the highlights. I’m genuinely going to miss this series, and I hope we continue to see this character in other Marvel projects in the future.
“While it’s yet another amazing show cut short by Disneys questionable decision making, the talented team behind it should feel proud about making one of the best pieces of TV of the 2020s animation or otherwise. A thrilling and entertaining take on the Marvel character that has complex story elements and dynamic action for everyone to enjoy.“ -The Animation Guru
