Comic-Con Cringe (and other things) - Tooned Up #12
Welcome to another episode of Tooned Up, in which Captain Kaye and Cam the Animation Guru discuss the news from Comic-Con @Home, which wasn’t a whole lot, sadly. They also discuss the new HBO Max animated series, Tig N’ Seek, the latest show from Myke Chilian, one of the designers who worked on Rick and Morty. They also tackle Dreamworks’ Cleopatra in Space, an adaptation of Mike Maihack’s graphic novel series and animated by Titmouse, Inc. Enjoy the episode, everyone!
Let’s check out a choice quote from Mike on Tig N’ Seek:
“Tig N’ Seek is an HBO Max original from Cartoon Network productions, and it’s kind of fascinating. The way it’s written, it almost comes off like a parody of many “edutainment” shows for kids, especially when each episode puts a spin on the traditional happy ending. The titular protagonist can sometimes be annoying, but the side characters are hilarious, particularly Jermaine Clements as This Guy. If you’re familiar with the works of series creator Myke Chilian, then I would check out Tig N’ Seek on HBO Max.”
Certainly sounds intriguing. I might check this one out.
Next up is the Cap’s thoughts on Cleopatra in Space:
“So, let’s talk about Dreamworks Animation’s Cleopatra in Space, now streaming on Peacock. It has a great Saturday Morning Cartoon premise, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Mike Maihack. The voice cast is stellar, and the writing is quite sharp, at times almost too self aware. I wish the animation budget was a little bit higher, but given that this was released the same year as Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, that might be an unfair comparison. It’s a show that skews a little bit younger, and takes a few episodes to find its stride. However, once it finds its groove, it’s one of the easiest shows to binge.”
Tonight, on an INTERGALACTIC EPISODE of Renegade Animation, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru shoot for the stars to talk about Lightyear, as well as Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness.
