Let's Get Geeked About Love, Death, and Robots! - Renegade Animation #64
Tonight, on a GEEKY episode of Renegade Animation, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru dive headfirst into the world of Netflix by covering the animation side of Geeked Week, and cover the latest installment of David Fincher and Tim Miller's Love Death + Robots!
How’s it going, fellow Renegades? TIS I, THE DIRECTOR, back to stream you the latest of the animation news this side of the internet. And man, was this past month something of a doozy.
We all know Netflix: the streaming overlords that are managing to shoot themselves in the foot more and more recently with slashing a lot of their animation division, stepping away from allowing auteur driven films with blank checks and chasing prestige validation with Oscar contenders like Roma and The Irishman for more products like Tall Girl 2, and apparently trying to add on commercials and advertisements while also driving up prices for an “ad-free“ experience and continually undermining the messages their shows have provided by announcing their biggest reality show which is basically Squid Games in real life.
Yes… it hasn’t been easy to be a fan of the streaming service, and it feels as though their good will has started to erode like the prospects of American Vandal Season 3. But despite the fact that they are just… absolutely making every single wrong decision, that doesn’t mean that the creatives still involved with the company don’t do the best they can with the current situation and are directly to blame for these decisions. You have Kevin Smith announcing the new season of Masters of the Universe, the biggest look we’ve gotten at the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosity AS WELL as his Pinocchio film, and a trailer for Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club!
And this isn’t even covering the extent of the animation news that’s come out! There’s so much to talk about, such as the new Castlevania show, another look at the continuation of Cuphead, a look at Inside Job, Entergalactic by Kid Cudi, and the long awaited Cyberpunk 2077 animated series!! Remember Cyberpunk 2077??! IT’S BACK… IN POG FORM!
But hey, don’t take my word for it. Listen to the Animation Amigos themselves for more in-depth thoughts on the industry!
