Super Scouts Interview with Writer Ryan Little!
Greetings, citizens of Earth-Prime! Neoplasmic here, with a special guest in tow! Yes, friends, today we are speaking with prolific comic book scribe Ryan Little! Ryan was kind enough to chat with us about his latest project, Super Scouts, which is a Super Sentai (think Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers) meets Galaxy Quest story about a group of past-their-prime actors who discover that the TV show they were featured on in their youth was based on actual events. Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? Let’s find out where Ryan and his artistic collaborators came up with the idea, and what separates the Scouts from the Rangers, by smashing that play button! Enjoy the episode!
I have to say that I really appreciated and had fun discussing the Scouts with Ryan! He really knows his Sentai stuff, as well as his manga. Now, this may come as a shock, but I’m not technically what you might call a “huge” fan of anime and manga, or even Sentai, so Ryan schooled me on things. Then again, my favorite anime is Cowboy Bebop, my favorite manga is Blade of the Immortal, and I am aware of Kamen Rider, Kikaida, and Ultraman, so I know a few things. Still, it was so cool to talk to someone who loves this kind of stuff with a burning passion, so this was a real treat!
As for the Super Scouts project itself, I would urge all of you who love the Power Rangers and VR Troopers and all those sorts of shows to give this book a look on Kickstarter! Not only is it wonderfully written and lavishly drawn by the great Bruno Oliveira, but it is a fantastic and funny parody/homage to all the Sentai series that Ryan and I enjoyed growing up. You can truly feel the love and affection that Oliveira has for the source material, as well. None of the parody is insulting or overboard or even focused on the shortcomings of the genre. Everything feels grounded and true to character, and throughout the three-issue series, you can see the development of the Scouts come to the forefront once they’ve been introduced.
All that said, I feel like I’ve rambled enough here. Please go support Ryan and follow him on Instagram and Twitter! You can also find more information on Ryan’s previous work on Facebook under his publishing imprint, Plastic Sword Press!
I was so happy after finishing this interview, dear readers. It’s so fun to chat with people who share your passion, whether it be for comics or movies or video games. We need good art in this world, and we need creativity more than ever! 2020 has been a horrible year in many ways, but we have to remember that Lord Darkness shall not prevail in the end, for the Super Scouts are here! And by the Super Scouts, I mean us. Our spirit, our toughness, and our resolve. That’s why RPC exists, friends. It’s because of people like our team of dedicated editors and podcast hosts. And it’s because of you, who peruse our site and enjoy our shows and read our articles.
