Mental Health Check Up #6 - All Good Things...
On the momentous occasion of this latest Mental Health podcast, we gathered the original core team of Jacob, Mike, Josh, Kristal, and Keona to discuss emotional and mental well-being, persevering through one of the most difficult years in recent history, and we bid farewell to our editor in chief in the notes, though he’ll be posting a few more episodes before he completely leaves. Hit the play button for more!
Hey, guys. Keona/Neoplasmic here. As we mentioned above, I’ve come to a pretty tough decision. It’s time for me to leave this wonderful RPC family. But first, let’s reminisce!
So I’ve been with Renegade Pop Culture since its inception, and originally, this site and podcast was my lifeline. It still is, but now my life is so complicated and I’m so worn down that things are different. Back when we started 14 months ago, I was so ready to add our unique voice to the cavalcade of other podcasts and pop culture websites out there. With the help of my co-hosts on this very episode, Jacob, Josh, Kristal, and of course, Mike, we were able to put together a show that celebrated the positive aspects of popular culture. We succeeded in bringing a more optimistic and fan-centric perspective to the discourse, and I think that’s a wonderful thing. With Mike, Cameron, Josh, and Jacob at the helm, this will undoubtedly continue.
I’m so proud of what we accomplished together here at RPC, and I’m so grateful for the friendships and relationships we’ve formed along the way. We started with zero Twitter followers in May of last year, and over time, we’ve grown to almost 1,400. We’ve made so many connections with different shows and individuals out there, and we’ve been able to invite so many awesome people on our podcast! I’m still amazed that we actually were able to interview my all-time favorite actress, Amy Acker, on our show, and that the episode remains our most popular installment to this very day!
I’m so very proud of Mike and Cameron for their insane work ethic and timely efforts with Renegade Animation, formerly called Tooned Up in the early days. Their show has skyrocketed in popularity over time, and has proven to be our most popular series! Kudos to the amazing work they’ve done, and I can’t wait to listen to more of their episodes after I’m gone.
And to Jacob, Josh, Kristal, Mike, Hayden, and the rest of the Renegade Marquee crew, who cover movies and TV and even Broadway, I’m so happy that the shows have gained traction recently and that I had the opportunity to share in that passion with you all. Movies have been a huge part of my life, ever since I worked at Blockbuster Video from 2009 to 2012. I’m so happy we got to interview the directors of White Lie and the filmmakers behind the Console Wars documentary. We had a lot of good times, my friends, whether we discussed Wonder Woman 1984 or Judas and the Black Messiah. I’m going to miss chatting with you all about our favorite films.
Lastly, to my brothers in the Renegade Arcade: Do it up, Brock, Tyler, Tony, Zayne, and all the guest hosts we’ve ever had! I hope you all continue to talk about the latest games, consoles, events, and the culture which surrounds them! Out of all the shows we’ve had on the site, Arcade has been my absolute favorite. It may not have been our most popular show, but it was the one that still held my passion until the end, though playing games has been a bit exhausting for me lately. We had a ton of fun discussing Resident Evil Village, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and of course, Final Fantasy VII Remake! I sincerely hope that Arcade continues going strong, and if you ever need a guest host for that show, I’ll be down!
Well, this is the tough part. Saying goodbye to our audience. To all of you who have taken the time to listen to us, and to the shows where I’ve appeared in particular: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This family is special, and I’m going to miss it. You may see me pop up elsewhere in the future, and I still have a few more episodes to post, so I’m not completely done just yet. But just know that I need to step back for my own mental health. Depression isn’t fun, kids. It’s a black hole, a void, where you can barely motivate yourself to do anything and nothing you’ve enjoyed in the past brings you joy. Hopefully it’ll pass; I just need time. Anyway, farewell, friends. Here’s to the fun times we had, and the hope for a brighter future. Cheers!
-Neoplasmic, bidding a fond farewell
Welcome to the latest episode of the Mental Health Checkup, wherein Captain Kaye, Neoplasmic, and the Streamin’ Demon are joined by BioShocker for the first time as they reminisce about past responsibilities and current opportunities! While 2022 has been a stressful year for many reasons, our crew still looks ahead to the future and finds the silver lining in the storm cloud of this life. Remember, if you’re ever dealing with difficulties, you are never alone. That’s the main message we want to send with this podcast.
