Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur, and the Proud Family are Louder and Prouder than ever! - Renegade Animation #94
In this episode, Captain Kaye and the Animation Guru discuss the 2nd season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, as well as first impressions of Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!
What’s going on, everyone? This is your Captain speaking, taking a quick detour from our Winter Anime impressions to talk about two excellent series from Disney Television Animation! The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder was created by Bruce W. Smith and Farquhar, both are executive producers alongside Calvin Brown, Jr. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur was developed by Steve Loter, Jeffrey M. Howard, and Kate Kondell, executive produced by Loter, Laurene Fishburne, and Helen Sugland. Tune into the podcast to hear our full discussion.
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
Full disclosure, I promised my followers a full written editorial breaking down my first impressions of this series, but there was simply too much to praise in these first few episodes to really narrow things down. Fortunately, that’s a good problem for any show to have, and with Moon Girl in particular, that means it’ll benefit from multiple rewatches. To put it as succinctly as possible, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is a wonderful celebration of art, culture, science, and superheroes in a diverse world that proudly reflects our own!
“Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has it all. Some fantabulous visuals, an endearing cast of loveable characters, sweet tunes, and it results in an overall package that will delight everyone of all ages. You can tell the team behind this show put in so much love and joy. It’s a physical manifestation of joy, happiness, and positive representation that is needed for animation and art to thrive. It’s a show that stands out among not only its Marvel animated contemporaries, but Disney shows and media in general. It’s a truly whimsical and fantastical time, and everyone should watch this show. You will be blasting, skating, and rip/roaring through an entertaining experience unlike any other. Seriously, go check out this show when it airs, because it has made one of the best first impressions I have seen for a TV show.“ -The Animation Guru
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Season 2
As I mentioned on the podcast, I didn’t realize how much nostalgia I had for the original Proud Family series until I watched the first season of Louder and Prouder. This series does such a great job not only at aging up the characters, but telling more mature stories dealing in at times pretty heavy themes. However, it never forgets to be an animated sitcom first, and the way this show balances the various tones is honestly quite impressive. When Disney dropped the entire second season on Disney+, I’ll admit that had me nervous. But seeing all the discussions online (for better or worse) and knowing that it will be broadcast on Disney Channel beginning Saturday, March 1st quickly put those worries to bed. I cannot recommend this series enough, and I’m glad that Cam and I finally had the opportunity to talk about it!
"The Proud Family has definitely been brought back Louder and Prouder as it tackles more politically and societal-charged topics with complete respect those stories need, but still finds time to be a creative and entertaining series.” -The Animation Guru
