Children Ride the Waves of the Stars - Renegade Animation #2
Tonight, on a very holly jolly episode of Renegade Animation (yes, the rebrand is HERE TO STAY), Cam and Mike tackle some recent anime releases and some festive specials!
How’s it going people? It’s me once again, THE DIRECTOR, bringing you the latest doodle from our favorite dudes on the site, as they sketch up some news, review some anime, and even watch the new Lego Star Wars Holiday Special! Will they give them that warm, holiday joy, or make them wish they received a lump of coal? I DON'T KNOW! Because you should listen to the episode and find out. (Our Captain Kaye lets out an F-Bomb and it damn near blew me away with the fallout!)
OR.. if you’re inclined to read, here’s the rundown on what our best boys thought of these seasons tidings.
THE LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL
“I had a lot of fun. It feel like a story written by a couple of children literally playing with all their favorite legos, the way I'm sure we all did growing up. This is the most pure love letter to Star Wars without the burden of fitting into "canon" produced by Lucasfilm under the Disney regime.” - Captain Kaye
BUGS BUNNY’S 24 CARROT HOLIDAY SPECIAL
“Bugs Bunny’s 24 Carrot Holiday Special was pretty good, but not quite up to the level of the previous Looney Tunes Cartoons shorts. The energy and the creativity is still there, especially in the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote segment. Perhaps I set my expectations too high, but still, the fact that we're seeing new shorts with these iconic characters is nothing to take for granted.” - Captain Kaye
CHILDREN OF THE SEA
“It's a little more of a slow burn, and the main protagonist can come off a little unlikeable towards the beginning, but things start to pick up more in the second half. Ayumu Watanabe is a director I'm not as familiar with, but this is a damn good first impression. Perhaps I would have appreciated this more had I seen it on the big screen, but nevertheless, Children of the Sea is worth checking out if you're a fan of Studio 4 C's output.” - Captain Kaye
RIDE YOUR WAVE
“The magical realism of it all that makes this story almost impossible to tell in any other medium. However, take out that element and it's still has an incredibly moving message about how to move on with your life after the loss of a loved one. The characters are all fantastic, each with their own endearing quirks. If there was one minor issue I had with the film, it's simply a story beat featuring a group of delinquents obsessed with making fireworks videos that I didn't exactly care for, who who set off the chain of events that lead to Hinako and Minato falling in love. Other than that, this is honestly one of the best films I've seen all year, and even though I'm getting around to this one late, the fact that it's secretly a Christmas film made it all worth it.“ - Captain Kaye
That’s all I’ve got for now, abedeabade THAT’S ALL, FOLKS! See ya’ll in the next episode, happy life day, and happy snowflake day!
And a quick shoutout to the editor of this episode, give a kiss to Kawaii Kyle under the mistletoe for taking the reins!
