Hey all, THE DIRECTOR here — and I’m bringing you another new episode of the Renegade Animation podcast! It’s a pretty stacked episode with a bunch of news, reviews and what have you, so let’s not waste any more time. I’ll let our Captain of these animated high seas take it from here!
M.O.D.O.K. (2021 - Current)
“Honestly, the only reason this show works as well as it does is because Patton Oswalt is the main creative force. Otherwise, it's only marginally better than the rest of Stoopid Buddy Stoodios' previous series, falling back on crude humor for "shock" value.” - Captain Kaye
EDEN (2021 - Current)
“It's a fascinating take on the classic human vs robots narrative, featuring stellar vocal performances, and incredible score, and some of the best CG animation I've seen from Japan. I wasn't expecting this to make me tear up as much as it did, yet that's how invested I was in this world, and I'd like to see more.” - Captain Kaye
AMPHIBIA (2019 - Current)
“Amphibia Season 1 was really good, but Season 2 is great! I'd hate to make an overused comparison, but this really is the Empire Strikes Back of the series, both in the way it raises the stakes for our heroes, and how it ends with a revelation about as shocking as the Gravity Falls episode "Not What He Seems." But as dark as I made this sound, it's still packed with plenty of great comedic moments, including a very cute homage to classic Looney Tunes cartoons.“ - Captain Kaye
CASTLE IN THE SKY (1986)
“This movie honestly blew any expectations I had completely out of the water. Inspired loosely by Treasure Island and Gulliver's Travels, one thing that really stands out in this movie is its complete adoration for adventure. At a runtime of 124 minutes, the film is surprisingly well paced, only ever really dipping in a few spots. As for the characters, this is where a lot of its charm comes from, and I especially love the cast of the English dub. With so many gorgeous animation sequences, particularly ones involving flight, it's no wonder this is considered a classic.“ - Captain Kaye
