The Shaman King has Visions of Zero Edens - Renegade Animation #37
Tonight, recorded in a galaxy far, far away, our Animation Amigos take a look at Netflix's Shaman King, Edens Zero, and the animated anthology short series Star Wars Visions!
Salutations, fellow Renegades! THE DIRECTOR is here to bring you a long awaited episode of Renegade Animation! I know those faithful listeners out there have been DYING to hear what our Captain and our Guru think of the latest animated release from Disney and Lucasfilm, so we’ll waste no time for this! It’s a helluvan episode, so let’s kick it over to the captain of the S.S. Animation!
STAR WARS VISIONS (2021)
“If there's one thing that Star Wars: Visions proves, it's that Star Wars and anime go together like peanut butter and jelly! It features 9 shorts from 7 different Japanese studios, and while some may be better than others, they each bring something unique to the table. Best of all, they'll unbound by canon, which makes them perfectly accessible for both Star Wars fans who are new to anime, and anime connoisseurs who are new to Star Wars.“ - Captain Kaye
EDENS ZERO (2021)
“One day I'll actually get around to finishing Rave Master and Fairy Tail, but for now, I just finished watching the newest anime from the mind of Hiro Mashima, Edens Zero. It has a lot of his strengths, as well as his weaknesses. Tonally, it's all over the place, and it's not hard to lose patience with our determined, yet hopelessly naive main protagonist. But once the story actually gets into gear, I found myself genuinely invested. It's an anime that definitely has that mid-2000's Shonen vibe, so if you're feeling nostalgic for that, you'll probably like this show just fine.” - Captain Kaye
SHAMAN KING (2021)
“Watching Shaman King was a lot more fun that I was expecting! I was first introduced to the manga in some random issue of the American Shonen Jump magazine back in the early 2000's, and years later I watched the entirety of the 2001 anime in Japanese. Because of this, I already had enough familiarity with these characters to get attached to this new iteration. That being said, for newbies, the pacing might be a little too fast, as they pack a few seasons of plot into the first 13 episodes. But overall, I can still comfortably recommend this series!” - Captain Kaye
